Beyond the Trees hosted its Family, Leadership and Born This Way overnight programs at Camp Mackinicholea on the Long Island Lake peninsula, Alberta, in 2026. The physical venue is reached from Highway 801 via Township Road 633A, following the winding road east for approximately 3 km. The camp owner’s Westlock postal box and the operator’s Edmonton office are separate from the venue. A 2027 season is unconfirmed.

Born This Way: Family Style ran July 3–5, 2026 and welcomed all ages as part of a family group. It is designed for 2SLGBTQIA+ families, including chosen, blended and extended families. Single adults are welcome but must register with a family. Optional staff-led activities included canoeing, outdoor education, swimming, crafts and some spiritual elements.

Leadership Camp ran July 5–8, 2026 for ages 14–17. Training covered counselling, communication, teamwork and problem-solving, with canoeing, hiking, storytelling and mentorship. Participants then return for one other camp to complete practical training with campers; confirm the placement’s dates and location directly with the operator. The program also described Level C First Aid training.

Born This Way youth camp ran July 11–15, 2026 for ages 5–17 in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, their allies or siblings, including families with queer children. Queer adults and trusted allies support a welcoming program featuring canoeing, crafts, outdoor connection and community-building.

These programs have different participation requirements: the family program is all ages, while the youth and leadership programs retain their specific age ranges. Confirm current sessions, availability, family registration, practical placements, individual support needs and packing requirements directly with Beyond the Trees.
