Canadian Cancer Society Camp Goodtimes hosts free overnight summer programs at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, 14500 Silver Valley Road, Maple Ridge, British Columbia V4R 2R3. The verified sessions below are historical 2026 programs; applications are closed. Contact the BC and Yukon camp office at 778-897-2377 or gotcamp@cancer.ca for current availability and individual eligibility. These programs serve people affected by childhood cancer and are not general-admission camps.

Discovery Leaders in Training is for current BC or Yukon residents ages 16–17 who have had cancer, are a sibling of someone who has had cancer, or are a bereaved sibling. Discovery participants must not have participated in a previous Camp Goodtimes leadership program. The 2026 guide lists Discovery 1 on July 27–August 1 and Discovery 2 on July 20–25, each at Loon Lake. The program develops teamwork and leadership through workshops, reflection, camp activities and helping with younger campers.

The Exploration Project is for current BC or Yukon residents ages 19–21 who have had cancer, are siblings of someone who has, or are bereaved siblings. Its 2026 Loon Lake sessions were July 12–15 and July 15–18. Workshops address practical life skills, goals, time management, self-reflection and confidence, alongside swimming, archery and ropes activities. Loon Lake has residence-style accommodation, meals, washrooms and showers; its ropes facilities include climbing and high/low ropes.

The operator requires proof of current childhood immunizations; COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory. Its published exemptions cover active cancer treatment, the period after treatment before revaccination is possible, and medical conditions preventing immunization, to be discussed with the clinical coordinator. The 2026 immunization guide says participants cannot attend within two weeks after a live vaccine. The camp also requires accepted participants with infectious symptoms to be symptom-free for 48 hours and seen by a physician before attendance. These are the operator’s participation rules; discuss medical suitability, exemptions and required forms directly with its clinical team.

Doctors and nurses are available around the clock during these sessions and administer medications. Bring medications in original containers with pharmacy labels; pre-filled dosettes and sharing prescriptions are not allowed. Participants with anaphylactic allergies must bring and carry their EpiPen. Contact camp before arrival if oral chemotherapy normally needs crushing, as it cannot be crushed on site. The person dropping off a participant must remain through medical check-in and meeting the program facilitator. An emergency contact must be able to collect a sick participant within 24 hours. Arrival and collection times are assigned; Discovery collection is staggered from 1 p.m., while Exploration collection is around 10 a.m. Notify staff about an alternate person collecting the participant. The camp does not permit cell phones.
