Youth HQ hosts Camp Alexo summer programs at its Alberta base, 13197 David Thompson Highway, Clearwater County, in the Nordegg region. The Red Deer Youth HQ office and the Red Deer, Innisfail and Rocky Mountain House transport stops are separate from the camp venue.
The official historical 2026 calendar lists Wapiabi, ages 7–12, July 6–10; Phoenix Adventure Camp, ages 13–17, July 14–23; Thunderbird Jr. Adventure Camp, ages 10–13, July 27–August 1; Shunda, ages 7–12, August 4–7; Waskway Leadership Camp, ages 13–17, August 10–14; and Bighorn, ages 7–12, August 17–21. These dates do not confirm a 2027 season.
Younger campers take part in nature and science activities, theme days, games, crafts, sports and campfires. The 2026 parent handbook limits out-trips and archery to ages 10 and older. Those older groups can camp in tents and cook over a fire. Camp also offers cabin stays and a teepee night experience, depending on the program.
Thunderbird includes an overnight Shunda Creek out-trip and a voyageur canoe day on the North Saskatchewan River. Waskway develops cooperation, self-confidence and leadership, including an overnight out-trip.
Phoenix participants choose two four-day expeditions, subject to availability, from options such as backpacking, canoeing, cycling, day hiking, kayaking and backcountry activities. Remote backpacking participants should be physically active and prepared for four days away. River canoe participants must successfully complete a pre-trip river swim showing comfort in the water and take part in canoe-capsize safety drills. Kayaking requires participants to be able to exit a flipped kayak. Cycling can cover about 30–40 kilometres per day. Discuss readiness and support needs with Youth HQ before selecting an excursion.
