Project Kampfire hosts fully subsidized Kamp Kiwanis overnight summer camps at Camp Connect, 7116 AB-68, on the north side of Sibbald Lake in Kananaskis, Alberta. The Calgary bus pickup locations and Cochrane mailing office are separate from the physical camp.
Regular camp eligibility is based on grades already completed. The historical 2026 schedule lists Intermediate/Senior sessions for completed Grades 5–6 on July 3–9, July 13–19 and August 2–8; Junior for completed Grade 4 on August 12–17; and NITES on July 22–29 for completed Grade 7 or campers age 13 at the time of the program. These dates do not confirm a 2027 season.
Admission requires nomination and selection. Anyone may nominate a child, with most nominations coming through teachers. The program prioritizes children who might otherwise miss the opportunity to attend camp. A selection committee reviews nominations, and space is limited. The operator says summer 2026 nominations are closed. Families outside Calgary may be considered when they can arrange travel to camp or a designated Calgary bus stop.
Activities include archery, crafts, a Kananaskis day hike, field games, flatwater canoeing, gaga ball, team-building tasks, a low-elements challenge course, nature activities and an overnight outing under tarp shelters. Campers and counsellors otherwise sleep in bunks in heated yurts or cabins. Indoor washrooms and showers are available, and the operator provides meals and snacks. Activities vary with conditions.
