The University of Alberta hosts DiscoverE engineering, Faculty of Science, Green & Gold sport and Steadward Centre adapted summer day camps at its North Campus in Edmonton. DiscoverE meets at the Engineering Quad in front of the Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex (ETLC). Science camps meet at the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) Quad, moving inside CCIS in rain. Follow the meeting instructions for the programme booked; the west, 116 Street-facing side of Donadeo is not the ordinary DiscoverE drop-off point.
DiscoverE’s live homepage announces week-long camps for students entering Grades 1–9 in September 2027, with details forthcoming. Science announces a 2027 schedule release in January and registration in February. The detailed offerings below are historical 2026 programmes; they are not confirmed 2027 schedules.
DiscoverE’s 2026 schedule used the grade campers would enter in fall 2026, grouped as Grade 1, Grades 2–3, 4–5, 6–7 and 8–9. Themes included biomedical, chemical and materials, civil and environmental, electrical and computer, and mechanical engineering, plus LEGO Education SPIKE robotics. Grade 1 used combined introductory themes. GEM+ was for girls and gender-diverse campers in the Grades 2–9 groups, with a maximum of twelve participants per session. Activities and projects varied by week and grade.
Science’s 2026 camps also used incoming grades in fall 2026: Minis for Grades 1–2, Juniors for Grades 3–4, Explorers for Grades 5–6, Challengers for Grades 7–8, and Innovators for Grades 9–11. Minecraft Challengers explicitly also admitted students entering Grade 9. Options varied by group and included animal and body science, chemistry, computing, robotics, space science, Minecraft, mathematics, game design, digital creation, nature science and physics. Science stated that no previous experience was required.
Historical 2026 Green & Gold North Campus sport options included climbing for ages 6–8, 9–11 and 12–14, without previous climbing experience. Discover Aquatics and Aquatics/Climbing Combo used ages 8–11 and 12–14, with a firm minimum age of 8 on the first camp day. Water participants needed to be comfortable in shallow and deep water; no particular swim-lesson level was required. Discuss swimming readiness directly with staff.
Basketball/Volleyball Combo and Ultimate Mix offered ages 9–11 and 12–14. REC Mix Gaming offered ages 12–14, combining board games, electronic gaming, arts and crafts, and physical activities. These Explore camps did not require previous sport experience, subject to the aquatics readiness requirements above. Green & Gold sport groups used Van Vliet Complex and other North Campus spaces; follow the booked programme’s meeting instructions.
Sport activities generally ran 8:45 a.m.–4:15 p.m., with drop-off 8:30–8:45 a.m. and pickup 4:15–4:30 p.m. These times differ from the STEM camp day below. Optional paid Play More care served ages 6–14; confirm availability and booking. Green & Gold required camp information and informed-consent forms before participation and used authorised QR-code sign-in/out procedures. Its 2027 schedule was announced for release in January with registration in February; the sport descriptions here remain historical 2026 details.
Historical 2026 STEM sessions spanned June 29–August 21, including shorter holiday weeks. Standard STEM camp hours were 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with supervised drop-off from 8:30 a.m. and pickup until 4:30 p.m. Confirm current dates, programme-specific grade eligibility, meeting point and availability directly with the relevant camp team.
The Steadward Centre’s historical 2026 adapted camps for children, youth and young adults experiencing disability included Little Activators (ages 3–7), July 13–17 or August 10–14, 9:15 a.m.–noon; Campus Adventure (ages 6–12), July 6–10 or July 20–24, 1:00–3:45 p.m.; and Nature Discovery (ages 6–12), August 10–14, 1:00–3:45 p.m. These offered movement, dance, cooperative games, scavenger hunts or nature exploration, depending on the programme.
Steadward Splash & Fun (ages 7–14) ran July 6–10 or July 20–24, 9:15 a.m.–noon, with daily water play and swimming activities rather than formal swim lessons. Para Sport Mix (ages 12–19) ran July 27–31, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., including wheelchair sports, swimming, track and field and fitness activities. TSC Teen Week (ages 12–19) ran June 29–30 and July 2–3, or August 4–7, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with social and fitness activities and a pool session. Summer Staycation (ages 19–29) ran July 13–17, 1:00–3:45 p.m., with campus activities, outdoor exploration and museum scavenger hunts.
Steadward programmes used the Centre and North Campus spaces; confirm the particular arrival point with TSC. Its 2026 poster described a camper-to-staff ratio of “at least 5:1” and stated that staff do not provide personal care, including toileting or feeding. Discuss suitability and any support or personal-care arrangements directly with TSC before booking. These support conditions are specific to Steadward, and its posted age ranges and hours differ from the other campus camps.
STEM and sport campers should bring nut-free lunch, snacks, a water bottle and weather-appropriate clothing. Daily sign-in and authorised sign-out arrangements apply. DiscoverE welcomes a camper’s professional aide or support worker if full-time one-to-one support is required; discuss support arrangements directly with that programme. Science and Steadward have their own policies and contacts. Review each programme’s current medication permissions, support, illness, conduct and cancellation rules before attendance. DiscoverE lists bursary assistance; confirm current eligibility and availability with the operator.
